Finally Dawn is at its most intriguing as Costanzo entrusts his curly haired, wide-eyed naïf to maneuver the looking glass of Italian versus Hollywood cinema. Hint: Italy comes off more soulful.

Finally Dawn is a surreal vision of coming-in-age via cinema, and [Lily] James fully sells the movie star mayhem at its center. But it can't overcome its meandering script and hollow depiction of the era.

Saverio Costanzo seems to throw more and more ideas at the page with the growing desperation of adding new toppings to mask a bad pizza.

Ultimately, I found Finally Dawn to be a beautifully made film lacking the substance to keep me invested. That being said, if I ever end up in a situation where Lily James asks me to hang out for the night, my answer is a resounding yes.
