Stolen is a look at a world little known to those outside of Scandinavia. For that reason, a little explanation about the Sami, the only indigenous people of Europe, would've been helpful for foreign audiences.

While much of the film is a straight-forward and broadly familiar affair, it gains traction with its audience via some sensationally pretty location footage and a rich sense of cultural detail.

Stolen is an across-the-board excellent drama rife with thematic poignancy.

As characters, Elsa and Mattias only exist to voice the concerns of their people and have little in the way of personal motives or goals.
