Don’t let anyone say they don’t make movies like they used to. Carnifex is a textbook 1970s-era monster mash-up. We don’t need no stinking budget; we got imagination, we got someone in a fur suit, let’s put on a show!

It turns out the old-school monster formula still has a few tricks up its pouch in the Australian ecological horror flick Carnifex.

Dropbear? Dropbear! This movie was surprising, and I understand how some people underestimate it and call it boring, but I found the narrative tight, the characters engaging enough and the monster...? It is a delight. You don't get to see it too early or too much, but the noises and its presence is terrifying, and it makes the movie far more interesting than any other monster would have, in this narrative. It is fun, and I recommend it.
