Small and slight in scale but sensitively drawn, this thoughtful feature debut from Adura Onashile has a quiet power, much of which is channelled through the wary eyes of the remarkable Lukumuena.

Writer-director Adura Onashile evokes the squelching intimacies between women, be they friends or blood relatives, bonds that can be both thrilling and suffocating.

What’s on view is way too sad for way too long as this small drama is overshadowed by its fancy production elements. Yet, the directing technique exhibited by filmmaker Adura Onashile, in her first film, is promising.

The film is slow to the point of sluggish, and might have benefited from a dash more plot. However, the performances are exceptional, nicely complementing the atmospheric visuals.
