Very clever, but I've seen this story a few hundred times in my life.

“Sew Torn” isn’t a genre exercise, not really. It’s more of an off-kilter riff on the familiar.

Macdonald nestles Run Lola Run’s loop-like structure inside a cozy crime thriller, the type that comes heavily armed with a sense of whimsy, if a bit subdued.

And therein lies the hidden narrative nutrition of Sew Torn’s crowdpleasing nucleus; we may be so busy scratching our Home Alone itch, that we don’t notice the ways in which Barbara’s use of thread clue us in to her psychology.
