Kids in the audience will probably get a kick out of the whole affair. The film does try to be serious and sentimental at times — often to no avail — but at least it’s never boring.

It gets away with its plot contrivances and general silliness by never taking itself too seriously, and delivering plenty of genuine laughs.

A fun, but forgettable Forger family flight of fancy that's enjoyable on its own terms.

Anime films with original stories are a great way to spend time with characters we love. There are high stakes, sure, but since this isn’t adapted from the manga, the status quo is not going to be radically altered.
