This film is well-made and entertaining but it is not as complex or as thoughtful as earlier Baumbach works...

We've seen Adam Sandler be a really good actor. But I think this is maybe my favorite dramatic performance of his in the sense that it is so vulnerable.

Jay Kelly may be flawed but it is compelling, and there it’s always a pleasure to watch George Clooney, especially in a part that suits him so well

It delivers flashes of brilliance, genuine laughs, and a few emotional gut punches, but it never fully settles on what it wants to be. Much like Jay himself, it’s always reaching for another take.
