Sergio Corbucci's film is notable not only for the artistry of its construction, but also for the underlying anger that fuels its political agenda.

Corbucci’s film is as angry as it is poignant, filled with its director’s intense hatred for fascism while refusing to allow any character what could be truly defined as a happy ending or arguably even redemption.

…a refreshingly amoral take on the Western back in 1966, and offers superior stagecraft to the many genre imitations that follow, plus a great centre in Nero…
