Critics consensus

“Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell's comedic chops elevate waterlogged material, but not even their buoyant chemistry can keep Overboard 's creepy concept afloat.”

Hawn and Russell make a cute couple, and Overboard has a fair amount of charm. Like a lot of movies these days, it takes this one too long to end, but up until the last 20 minutes or so, it is a moderately entertaining, old-fashioned formula comedy.

Why [Kurt Russell] wouldn`t simply leave [Goldie Hawn] alone is just one of the film`s flaws.

Kurt Russell abuses Goldie Hawn into becoming a better, more caring woman? Who thinks this stuff is funny? Lots of people, unfortunately.

Merely sour and sadistic.
