While I’m reluctant to credit a film like “Pretty Lethal” with moving this exhausted horror subgenre away from its threadbare formula, it’s a twirl in the right direction.

Nothing here is to be taken very seriously at all but it is mostly devoid of the suffocating, and often nihilistic, smugness one has come to expect from modern action films.

Despite the constant mayhem, Pretty Lethal brings little that’s new to the dance floor.

Pretty Lethal is pretty good. Short, snappy and unapologetically silly, its cacophony of carnage is music to the ears.
