A chilling mystery about an isolated community who capitalism left behind, The Soul Eater is a thrilling, thoughtful addition to the serial killer film tradition.

While the procedural elements may feel more rote, at least in an era inundated by crime thrillers, Maury and Bustillo pull from their horror toolkit and plunge into dark subject matter with aplomb.

For those who enjoy police procedural thrillers gorged to the gills with bizarre plot twists, The Soul Eater is must have stocking stuffer as Bustillo & Maury have concoct their best film since debuting Inside (2007).

The Soul Eater is an audacious effort - a mix of Cocaine Bear, Longlegs, and The Menendez Brothers - that may be too bold for its own good.
