Storyline

The few thousand kilometers that separate Patagonia from the South Pole are a fascinating and hypnotic journey for explorers. Some even speak of an addiction, 'the Antarctic bite'. March of the Penguins (2005) director Luc Jacquet has been experiencing it for 30 years. His new film is a visually-striking adventure, offering us images beyond words, an ultimate tribute to a vanishing continent.

This film did serve as a vivid document of what is being lost to time and apathy...

This film is Jacquet’s journal, and though the images and musical score are outstanding — even if there’s not nearly enough penguin footage to justify the price of admission for most — the words underwhelm.

The splendidly evocative black-and-white photography is the main attraction here, and the transporting imagery will be enough for many viewers.
