Competency isn’t the biggest problem. It’s momentum, in a movie that's very slow when it's not enlivened by Miguel Ferrer's performance.

There are, in short, no human relationships aboard "Deep Star Six": just frequent frantic cries of "Mayday!" and special effects that bubble and gurgle a lot but never produce a single quiver of genuine terror.

Not exactly essential, DeepStar Six is an enjoyable watch.

It must be said there is not much Cunningham does wrong here, but at the same time there is little or nothing that stands out.
