There’s plenty of brotherly betrayal, double-crossing and other juicy Bible stuff, but it’s let down rather by David’s woefully bland characterisation: pretty to look at, brave, and possessing the psychological depth of a daisy.

This is an impressively visually polished, heartfelt and musically engaging adaptation that brings a familiar story to life with sincerity and style.

The film’s strengths are in the vitality of its animation and the beauty of its settings. ...Its flaws lie in its evangelical moments which sit oddly with its Disneyfied tone but that doesn’t seem to be deterring audiences.

The film’s biggest strength is the outstanding CG-animation, which is very impressive for a studio outside of the main Hollywood stable. Certainly worth a look for families and the faith curious.
