At the heart of The Other Way Around lies a recognition of the ephemerality of romance: with another person, with cinema, with life. And it is in repetition that we get to relish that which we love. Again and Again.

...[The Other Way Around is] a witty, cerebral film that initially evokes mature classics such as Scenes from a Marriage and Annie Hall, before veering into playfully modernist territory.

This is a fresh and often moving take on the evaporation of intimacy in long-term relationships and how formative family life can linger, often unhelpfully, in adult love.

Trueba’s light-footed film keeps their relationship in a state of sweetly suspended animation: Ale and Álex will be together, and not together, for ever. What could be more romantic than that?
