Ultimately, the narrative inconsistencies and uneven progression prevent “The Concubine” from reaching greatness. Nevertheless, its powerful visuals, strong performances, and charged sensuality make it a work well worth watching\

The Concubine is a beautiful period film with a layered story of love and betrayal that while a touch too long is easy to watch for fans of the genre.
