Incoherent narratives need to be offset by captivating visuals. “Kryptic” simply doesn’t have that in its favor.

The movie lays out a lot of interesting ideas about autonomy, self-discovery, and sexuality but it leaves them all at a surface level.

Once the ambiguously framed story clicks its metaphor into place, Kryptic transforms into an unconventional slice of goopy cryptid horror.

Kryptic brings an air of mystery to its viewers, especially well after the credits roll. Roy makes it clear that she is not interested in providing a finite or compact set of questions and answers that we would see in any typical enigmatic narrative film.
