It has an appealing Jewish neshama (soul) that peeks out from under the surface of an uneven but often funny (and occasionally touching) story.

This is a reasonably hip movie to, say, take your 13-year-old niece or nephew to. It’s a little rude at times, but not really. And as most summer camp experiences tend to, it all ends in hugs and positive lessons learned.

I'm the target demographic for "School of Rock" at a Jewish summer camp. It doesn't work.

The summer camp genre is as old as Moses, but faster than you can say "Meatballs" this one has the twist of focusing on Jewish youth. It's the same bullies, geeks etc. and is so Jewish it's practically lifted on a chair and sung Hava Nagila to.
