Critics consensus

“Despite Vanessa Kirby's strong performance, Night Always Comes falters with thin plotting, ill-crafted social critique, and underdeveloped characters.”

Kirby is a little too glossy and glowing of complexion to convince as a woman who works three jobs and gets most of her nutrition from bar snacks and bourbon.

It’s a thoughtful, if grim, movie, and Kirby is outstanding.

It gets the style right and Kirby is first-rate, but the movie is a chore to watch.
