The sense of if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it suits a movie with no great aim but to call back to the original. A modern critic might point out the irony of yesterday’s outsider becoming today’s guardian of old-school wisdom.

We get some light chuckles and one-off jokes, but the story, with bones to be genuinely gripping, flatlines thanks to an onslaught of half-assed gags and cameos.

There are laughs to be had, here and there; the good news is, the sequel isn’t terrible. It’s just not anything special, nothing with the spark of the original.

A breezy and intermittently funny comedy that sticks to the playbook of every decades-later sequel, sending its hero back to zero to lazily rehash the beats of its predecessor.
