Celyn Jones puts Callum Scott Howells centre-stage in this bold and beautiful celebration of Welsh history. A vital testament to queer optimism and pride even in the darkest of times.

A shame that everything here is so tame, so careful and so Sunday night telly. And not in a good way.

The scenery is divine, and while the unrealistic ending -- which deploys the clichés of your average Sunday evening TV show -- lets it down the performances are excellent. Howells ensures we feel sympathy for Henry, and Everett’s butler is touching.

Madfabulous is great at showing the importance of the "chosen family" and of alternative spaces needed by queer people who feel that the strictures of convention cannot accommodate them.
