No real insight or conclusions are offered as to the possibilities or impact of polyamory in modern relationships. Splitsville therefore amounts to a largely shallow affair, but is a thoroughly entertaining time all the same.

The problem is this exhaustingly open-minded yet curiously dated rom-non-monogamy-com is lacking the chemistry and comedic bite needed to make it distinctive.

This is a beautifully written and played film, with shades of Woody Allen and Nora Ephron.

Splitsville imagines a world where people can have better discussions about monogamy vs. polyamory and a society where children are raised by villages, not individuals. It’s a nice sentiment, but not one I’m fully convinced it sells.
