Storyline

Margot Zeller is a short story writer with a sharp wit and an even sharper tongue. On the eve of her estranged sister Pauline's wedding to unemployed musician/artist/depressive Malcolm at the family seaside home, Margot shows up unexpectedly to rekindle the sisterly bond and offer her own brand of support. What ensues is a nakedly honest and subversively funny look at family dynamics.

Critics consensus

“Despite a great cast, the characters in Margot at the Wedding are too unlikable to enthrall viewers.”

OK, this all sounds a bit tiresome and shop-worn... But, as well as being savage, it is also savagely droll, with several truly laugh-out-loud moments, and the performances are stunning.

RTLondon Evening StandardFeb 29, 2008

Doesn't quite measure up to its predecessor but it is still an often painfully accurate study of fractured family relationships.

A

Anthony Quinn

RTIndependent (UK)Feb 29, 2008

Dramatically and visually, there's no relief to be had in this self-indulgent downer.

RTFrom the Front RowJul 6, 2019

Baumbach's flair for dialogue and keen observation are still in top shape.
