The stakes rarely rise above a confiscated phone and the threat of disqualification, and it's crawling with cringe - but look past that and you'll find family-friendly fun, catchy tunes, and characters worth rooting for.

Camp Rock was never trying to be prestige television; it was trying to convince twelve-year-olds that summer camp came with a soundtrack and a shot at true love, and on that front, mission very much accomplished, then and now.

It’s G-rated, polished, and filled with that signature, feel-good, hyper Mouse House tone and pacing. It’s corny — but sometimes we need a little bit of corn in our lives.

The problem with constantly dragging the old music back into the room is that it invites comparison, which is incredibly unhelpful when the new songs already sound like they were written to resemble Camp Rock rather than become part of it.
