In an age of lowered expectations—for movies, for romance, for just about everything—maybe [Elinor is] the Austen heroine we need... Austen knew what she was talking about, and time hasn’t eroded her wisdom.

What saves this “Sense and Sensibility"—what gives it both sense and sensibility—is Edgar-Jones as Elinor and George McKay as her sweetly hapless soulmate Edward Ferrars. Both actors know how to rein it in and make repression seem sexy...

[It] is a film you’ll want to snuggle up with, even when it hurts most—perhaps especially then.

While never changing the wheel this new Sense and Sensibility is an enjoyable and undemanding watch that will go down well on a rainy Sunday with a cup of tea and a biscuit.
