Most of the beats that play out the rest of the way are predictable. But this movie, directed by Carlson Young and based on the novel from Anna Todd, isn’t one you come to for originality

The latest offering in Amazon’s endless catalogue of “romance content”. I wouldn’t ordinarily use that term to describe a film, but it fits The Last Sunrise (indifferently directed by Carlson Young) like a glove.

"The Last Sunrise" has the misfortune of arriving at a time when the YA genre is firing on all cylinders. And to stand out, it must offer an X factor, even if it is, in its most basic essence, a derivative summer romance.

The film probably would’ve been far more effective if it had committed to that darkness instead of settling for a fairly predictable YA package adorned with a nice backdrop and an abundance of beachwear.
