The Influencer

Meghan Weinstein’s The Influencer condemns the vulturistic nature of the digital age, both the exploitation of blind fanaticism and the hunger for fame and fortune we all crave.

This is a dark satire that never quite lands as it careens back and forth between comedy and social commentary.

Then the narrative shifts into an unhinged thriller, and while the tone remains resolutely cheesy, larger themes come into the mix.

Filmmaker [Meghan] Weinstein's amusingly etched portrait of the times may move slowly at first, but the careful scene-setting leads to a breathless toboggan run down the slippery slope of 21st-century pop culture and crass commerce.
