Had the writing been sharper, Romanchakam could have worked as a coming-of-age friendship tale and a new-age love story. As it stands, it delivers sporadic laughs, but neither the humour nor the romance lingers.

Romanchakam is not a bad film, it is a frustrating one at its best. Because inside the two hours and 22 minutes of padding, slow setups and unearned emotion, there is a genuinely fun, tight 100-minute romantic comedy trying to get out.
