Years ahead of its time.

[A] deeply amoral morality tale.

Skillfully written, with a penetrating, almost brutal glimpse of Sicily and its antiquated way of life, it has been directed by Pietro Germi with lagless pace and consistent incisiveness, evoking constant chuckles rather than isolated guffaws.

Germi (who also wrote the screenplay) pulls off the satire effectively and the result is a very funny movie in which you’ll be laughing at the men, who hold a ridiculously favored position in their society, for not realizing how good they have it.
