Katsuhiro Otomo's uneven but often dazzling anthology feature "Short Peace" reminds viewers of the untapped visual potential of animation.

What it does provide is a good overview of the talent and ability of the Japanese animation industry, if maybe not so much its storytelling capabilities. I recommend seeing it!

Arguably, the constituent films of Short Peace proceed from best to worst, but the decline is remarkably gradual. Frankly, there is no clunker in the lot.

...one of the more satisfying cinematic anthologies I've seen. It's a mixed bag, but in the best ways possible.
