Critics consensus

“The Crazies isn't top-shelf Romero, but its blend of genre thrills and social subtext should still be enough to satisfy discerning horror fans.”

Romero does build some intense tension around the scenario, and the questions of who's going to survive it, and whether they'll deserve to.

This movie is a lot of people just yelling at each other. There had to be more interesting ways to approach this idea. However, knowing what we know about society's response to COVID...maybe it's not so far off.
