Despite the blazing guns, this script is not so tough.

Brotherly Love is about a specific place, but it functions as a character drama, with the real focus not on what happens on the streets but rather how it impacts individuals, families, and communities.

The movie has a gritty urban atmosphere and the performances are strong -- when writer/director Jamal Hill lets the actors get a word in edgewise.

This ensemble film brings in enough elements from comedy to drama that it becomes a moving, enjoyable treat highlighted by surprising performances.
