In the end, the film is smart, fun, and wild.

The film falls so hard off its course that I basically checked out after about 40 minutes.

What I love most about Dope is director Famuyiwa's confidence in his audience.

"Dope" rises above the weak comedic formula of going to the well too often for the repetitive gross-out gags and childish sexual humor that normally saddle coming-of-age comedies.
