This jingoistic war-at-sea movie, redeemed by neither narrative momentum nor fully formed characters, will test the patience of the most ardent military fanatic.

For American viewers unfamiliar with the incident, watching the film by Kim Hak-soon is like being an uninvited guest at a national memorial service.

An impressive, highly moving-if overlong-achievement.
