'49 – '17

The scenes seem to lack a certain snap and sustaining power that, if present, would have welded them into a much more powerful whole. Even as it is, however... there are places where the originality of the idea carries it to stronger heights.

'49-'17 is one of those productions which makes one move from one side of the seat to the other, open and close the eyes, and then finally drop off to sleep without the slightest effort.

Good acting is done by Joe Girard, Donna Drew and the rest of the company. Ruth Ann Baldwin has acquitted herself with credit in the dual capacity of scenario writer and director.

There is not much dramatic strength in the first four reels, but the plot Is fresh and not so obvious as sometimes happens, and there is sufficient drama in the last reel to provide a strong finish.
