Strong performances and stunning visuals aren't enough to compensate for the strained Southern Gothic artificiality.

"My Father Die" is a trashy jewel. As with the Rubens painting of Saturn devouring one of his sons that punctuates certain scenes, you kind of can't stop looking at it.

My Father Die is one of those films that is fascinating to watch with a story that runs deep and characters that are miserable yet trying to reach for goals that may be unattainable or illogical.
