Storyline

An edited version of Rosefeldt's installation work of the same name, Manifesto is an outstanding tribute to various (art) manifestos of the nineteenth and twentieth century, ranging from Communism to Dogme, in connection with thirteen different characters, including a homeless man, a factory worker and a corporate CEO, who are all played by Cate Blanchett. A striking humorous audio-visual experience.

Critics consensus

“Laugh-out-loud humor and Cate Blanchett's tour de force performance(s) make Manifesto worth watching, even if the subject matter is too esoteric for all but a few.”

One for the fans. Fans of Blanchett and Kazimir Malevich's Suprematist Manifesto. Wherever they may be.

... a deeply unironic and mildly gross Blanchett showreel.

It's an intriguing idea, visually arresting and intellectually confrontational. It is not without problems, however.

As a concept this may please some art students, but as entertainment it's a dud. Exactly why boredom sets in early has something to do with the difference between visual and dramatic art.
