Center Stage: On Pointe

By the time the climactic, Rihanna-scored musical number arrives, your attention will have long since waltzed off.

On Pointe gets too ambitious, and tries to promote a message of teamwork to go with its attempt at iconoclasm. Here, the partnership becomes more important than the players, which throws the whole thing off balance.

The best part of "Center Stage: On Pointe" are the 30-odd seconds, about 20 minutes in, when the characters all watch "Center Stage."

The return of some characters from the original gives it some charm, while the combination of ballet with contemporary dance also makes for some creative choreography.
