Storyline

Two whimsical, aimless thugs harass and assault women, steal, murder, and alternately charm, fight, or sprint their way out of trouble. They take whatever the bourgeoisie holds dear, whether it’s cars, peace of mind, or daughters. Marie-Ange, a jaded, passive hairdresser, joins them as lover, cook, and mother confessor. She’s on her own search for seemingly unattainable sexual pleasure.

There are laughs in it, yes, but how could anyone take this as a comedy?

French filmmaker Bertrand Blier didn't reinvent the wheel with 1974's Going Places, an adaptation (with cowriter Philippe Dumarçay) of his 1972 novel, but the film wouldn't have become an international sensation if he didn't push the envelope...

Seen as a scampy sex comedy back in its day, this French film that made Gérard Depardieu a star may just be the most misogynistic film I've ever seen.

An enormous hit in France and a lightning rod of controversy when it debuted stateside.
