Storyline

In this fake documentary that skewers the world of no-budget camcorder cinema, amateur filmmaker Ed Benjamin and his kid sister Meredith put their savings into producing a direct-to-video sexy vampire flick. They foolishly hire ex-soap star Veronica Weaver as the lead, whose eccentricities and diva behavior threaten to wreck the entire production.

The film's structure is novel. A fact/fiction ambiguity works well, and genres are blended together like so much red dye and corn syrup.

Grant's slippery presentation muddles his point - if he has one - but it's fun to guess at what's a put-on.

Fake Blood hardly distinguishes itself from the glut of mock-docs; it may be a refreshing break for the filmmakers, but viewers might prefer another zombie flick.

It's a twisted b-movie that makes a smart u-turn, turning the story inside out as the movie flips from asking questions to basking in danger.
