The Argument

There are some very funny bits here, but unfortunately the concept takes too long getting off the ground, leaving the first three-quarters of the movie floating in limbo, waiting for it to all make sense.

Viewers who get through a credulity-testing second act may laugh enough in the third to be glad they did.

Stanford and Schwartzman's cutesy skirmish doesn't feel honest; if it were, "The Argument" would probably admit that none of these people are ready for a relationship.

The Argument is the furthest thing from a generic romantic comedy, and I really enjoyed the mesh of the theatrical and cinematic space. Kudos to writer Zac Stanford for the cleverness of this screenplay, and creating something I won't soon forget.
