Veronica

If Plaza's pileup of post-Exorcist tropes works, it's because Escacena creates a fully inhabited (in both senses of the word) character who we want to see escape her deadly circumstances.

As the doctor interrogates her patient's buried past, the relationship between these very different women - one young and erotically charged, the other middle-aged and sexually repressed - becomes defined by projection, transference and role play.

This is another case of true story horror films really doing their job. Paco Plaza already proved himself as a horror force to be reckoned with...but he really outdoes himself with Veronica, outshining even the best of James Wan's supernatural shockers.

'Verónica' knows very well how to enter our heart. [Full Review in Spanish]
