Jinn

Mu'min, who based "Jinn" in part on her own upbringing, approaches her protagonist's journey of self-discovery with a delicate sense of wonder and a striking lack of moral judgment.

Jinn quivers with joy and uncertainty, confidence and shame, delivering exactly what makes independent cinema exciting: a bright new voice with a bold vision.

Jinn holds several beautiful elements, especially in its central mother-daughter story.

It's not necessarily a bad film, but it does fall into the trap where its impact could have been magnified to greater heights, absently leaving some of its ambitious storytelling as a wasted opportunity.
