Storyline

Roshan Kalra is a three-star Michelin chef who gets fired from New York's Gulli restaurant after he punches a customer. Forced to take a break, he flies to Kochi to spend time with his son, Armaan and his estranged wife Radha Menon. It's a fruitful trip because he manages to mend broken family ties. In a bid to help him get his mojo back, his wife suggests he put up his own food truck and begin afresh.

There are some interesting flavours here, but Chef feels derivative, and doesn't come together as a fully satisfactory dish.

The dynamics of modern-day, urban associations are well-observed. It's the uneven, jagged and lazy tone of the film that lets it down badly.

Not only does Saif look dapper in the film, he possibly bagged the best performance too.

Chef is a feel-good drama that benefits from the nuanced colour palette that cinematographer Priya Seth... brings to the table.
