Critics consensus

“An affectionate documentary packed with revealing archival material, Thank You Very Much doesn't decode the legendary Andy Kaufman's mystique but will make audiences feel just a little bit closer to him.”

Braverman wisely does not try to imitate Kaufman’s style in the film, instead opting to explore his career through old footage and conversations with people who knew him.

Braverman has a number of aces up his sleeve, including a wealth of interviews filmed in the 1990s.

It’s very clear that Braverman has a lot of respect and reverence for his subject, and it’s worth a watch for those who are curious about this goofy guy who used to slap on a foreign accent and play with bongos & people’s perceptions.

RTBook & Film GlobeAug 30, 2025

The best conceptualization Braverman is able to offer as to why Kaufman is funny is that he was trying to take his audience hostage as they sat mystified, trying to decide whether or not he was actually telling a joke or just being excessively awkward.
