Films like Judgment at Nuremberg began with the assumption that morality could be upheld and responsibility assigned. The Man in the Glass Booth is an infinitely more despairing work.

Offering Schell, a fine actor, Oscar recognition is perhaps a bit too generous, but there's undeniable commitment to observed, even when Hiller forgets he's making a picture, not a play.

It's what I call an intellectual thriller.

The dramatic sins committed in The Man in the Glass Booth are formidable on their own, but coupled with the creator's specious arguments about the world situation, the film becomes intolerable.
