Amini's eye towards the simple humanity of his subjects keeps the film from drowning in predictable clichés.

Hendi & Hormoz works best when the camera is the proverbial fly on the wall, flatly showing the audience Hormoz's struggle to find employment and Hendi's yearning to finish school despite everyone around her decrying the uselessness of her education.
