Kinshasa Makambo

The film could have included more insights from a female perspective... Still, this remains a courageous and absorbing documentary, highlighting a new Congolese generation that dares to make their voices heard.

Alongside gripping depictions of political mobilizations and police clampdowns, the 33-year-old filmmaker contemplates the inevitable clashes between idealism and pragmatism for people trying to achieve their goals under severe constraints.

...a visually and narratively gripping record of why civilian opposition rises and how they can fall apart. The tale is sharp and vivid in presentation, but bleak in outlook.

Kinshasa Makambo presents the real price and the real consequences of demanding one's freedom.
