Composer Steven Lauddem is plagued by a creative block which leaves him unable to finish the score for his big comeback opera. When his former therapist-turned-wife Patricia suggests he rekindle his creativity by getting lost in the city, Steven sets out in search of inspiration. Critics consensus

“She Came to Me 's uneasy blend of romantic comedy and drama proves frequently frustrating despite the story's admirable aims and strong work from an outrageously talented cast.”

Only a cast this appealing could put over such ridiculous fodder, and She Came to Me is nothing if not watchable. But it bends itself into a pretzel trying to be quirky and the strain is all too apparent

She Came to Me chugs for 102 minutes, but Rebecca Miller’s rom-com strains to pick up steam.

This strands the wonderful, whimsical Tomei (begging for her own movie) as a messed-up, romantically fixated singleton whose desire for love may be crazy -- but, the movie asks, isn’t crazy love what will free us all?

Rebecca Miller's new film might steer dangerously close to whimsy, but it’s witty and charming, and Marisa Tomei steals every scene.
