"Freedom at Midnight" is on a slightly lower level than "Jallikattu" but Pappachan seems to have grasped the lessons of his teacher fully, resulting in a film that is entertaining to watch, particularly for its audiovisual approach and action scenes.

The atmospherics, the haunting ugliness of that prison complex and the suspense hold out enough excitement to make this a watchable albeit flawed film.

The violence is minimum in this taut action thriller, which prides itself in using the smarts; and that's what makes this jailbreak movie an arresting watch.

Tinu Pappachan is another young filmmaker ready to make an impression, and his first film is a corker.
